Minerva Pool – Dharawal National Park’s Sacred Swimming Hole

Nestled in the bushland of Dharawal National Park, Minerva Pool is one of Sydney’s most unique natural swimming spots. The tranquil waterhole is fed by a gentle waterfall and surrounded by sandstone cliffs and forest, creating a peaceful escape from the city.
As a sacred site for the Tharawal people, Minerva Pool holds deep cultural significance. Visitors are asked to show respect by ensuring only women and children swim in the pool, while men enjoy the scenery from the surrounding lookout areas.
If you’re looking for more hidden swimming holes and waterfalls across the state, you’ll find detailed maps and guides in my book Swim New South Wales.

Respecting Minerva Pool’s Cultural Significance
Minerva Pool is a sacred women’s site for the Tharawal people, the Traditional Custodians of Dharawal Country. As such, only women and children are permitted to enter the water. Men are asked to admire the pool from the lookout above.
It’s important to treat the site with respect:
-
Follow cultural guidelines about swimming access.
-
Take all rubbish home with you.
-
Stay on the marked path to protect the bush environment.
